Accountability and Transparency
Politicians should not be untouchable. Accountability and Transparency are Key
Accountability
Part of ethical governance is the obligation for Politicians to maintain accountability to their constituents. This accountability extends past the legislative session. Our representatives have an obligation to be upright citizens in their personal and day to day lives. They cannot use inside information to enrich themselves. They cannot use their ability to affect the law to enrich or benefit themselves or family members. To do so creates a breach of trust and confidence and diminishes their capacity to truly represent their constituents.
Transparency
The most vital part of holding themselves to a higher level of responsibility is providing transparency. What are the commitments that each legislator has made to their constituency? How are they going to pursue those commitments? How are they working on those in the Legislative session and out of it? Are they going to address real issues or discuss fluff that doesn't matter?
What I'm going to do:
I'm committed to transparency. I will be publishing my priorities for each legislative session and asking for constituent feedback on each issue.
I will be honest in my dealings inside and out of the legislative sessions.
Each bill I sponsor and pass will be done with the intent to benefit the largest number of constituents for the longest amount of time possible.
I will be open to sincere and productive dialogue with every constituent. It is us against the problem. Not me against you.
